The Dominican Republic is positioned as the world's leading exporter of cigars and tops the list of countries sending rum to Spain.
Santo Domingo. As part of the promotional activities for the exportable offering, the Center for Export and Investment of the Dominican Republic (ProDominicana) held the "Tobacco and Rum Night" as part of the "Quarterly Exhibition dedicated to Free Zone, Logistics & Production." The event, held at the ProDominicana Gardens, served as the perfect setting for visitors to enjoy multiple experiences of aroma, flavor, and texture of the Dominican exportable offering.
In this regard, the executive director of ProDominicana, Biviana Riveiro Disla, expressed that through this activity, the institution continues its efforts to promote the country's exportable products. "We open the doors of our institution with a showcase to offer the excellent products of my country, with the aim that you know part of what we can offer in international markets through our different sectors," she stated.
It is worth noting that Dominican exports of Tobacco and substitutes reached US$1.226.8 million for 2022, with a total accumulated of US$697.7 million for January-July 2023. Likewise, the main destinations of Dominican tobacco exports in 2022 were: the United States with 75.31%, Germany 4.41%, China 3.82%, and Puerto Rico 3.51%.
Regarding rum exports, these reached US$138 million for 2022, and for the period January-July 2023, they accumulated figures of US$84 million. The main destinations of Dominican rum exports were Spain with 43.09%, the United States with 15.74%, Latvia 8.52%, the Netherlands 4.21%, Italy 3.62%, and Germany 2.93%.
The event had the special collaboration of: Cigarros La Aurora, Ron E. León Jimenes Café Kora, Beer Innis & Gunn, Banco de Desarrollo y Exportaciones (BANDEX), Inicia, and Fersán. In addition, exhibition activities were carried out with a tobacco roller rolling cigars for the enjoyment of visitors.
The Tobacco and Rum Night brought together important personalities from the sector such as: Guillermo León, president of La Aurora, Iturbides Zaldivar, director of marketing and sales, Juan Mustafá, General Manager of BANDEX, among other personalities related to this important industry.
The exhibition of the exportable offering had the participation of different companies including Tobacco and Rum, Free Zones, Logistics, and Production such as: Sylvan Place Enterprises Corporation, Tabacalera Estrella, La Aurora S.A, Oliver & Oliver International, Tabacalera La Realeza, Consorcio Cítricos Dominicanos, Café Kora, Tabacalera Torres García, J&J Spirits S.R.L, DP World Dominicana, HIT Puerto Haina, United Brands, Industrias Banilejas (Induban), Cortés Hermanos & CO, J. Armando Bermúdez, Chinola LLC, Mversal Packing, Vinícola del Norte, Roing Agro-Cacao, and H&A Estrella.
